Anthropic (Claude)

Anthropic offers the Claude family as SaaS, known for long-form reasoning, reliable code and safety. Direct access or via Amazon Bedrock. Token-based billing, reserved for non-sensitive use cases.

Key points: Claude · Long-form reasoning · Code · Non-sensitive.

Models served: Claude Fable 5.1, Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5 and Claude Haiku 4.5; Claude Fable 5 and Claude Opus 4.8 remain available as legacy models (Anthropic models list as of 2 September 2026)

Location: United States, subject to the Cloud Act.

Where the data goes

By default, inference is routed globally (the "global" value of the inference_geo parameter); the only published option pins inference to the United States, at 1.1 times the standard rate, and data at rest is stored in the United States, the only workspace geography offered (Anthropic documentation as of 2 September 2026). Anthropic publishes no European residency offering equivalent to Azure data zones, which leaves US jurisdiction, and the Cloud Act, as the default frame.

Retention and training

The documentation describes zero data retention and HIPAA-ready access (with a signed BAA), both subject to conditions. The point to check in the contract is that these regimes vary by model: the so-called Covered Models (Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5 since 9 June 2026, Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1 since 31 August 2026) require thirty-day retention and are not available under zero data retention without Anthropic's express authorisation, whereas Claude Opus 5 or Claude Sonnet 5 remain eligible (Anthropic documentation as of 2 September 2026).

When to use it from a sovereign platform

For long-reasoning and agent tasks where the quality gap justifies leaving the local foundation. The rule stands: nothing sensitive leaves without contractual zero data retention, and the regime must be rechecked at every model change, since it follows the model rather than the account.
